Board of Trustees Minute of Support
For Light the Future Campaign
On May 14, 2014, the Friends Seminary Board of Trustees authorized the launch of a Capital Campaign. The purpose of the Campaign is to provide resources in support of transformational plans to increase substantially the School’s endowment and to redevelop the three townhouses on East 16th Street into a modern teaching and learning facility. Both initiatives have their genesis in Board-led projects—the 2014 Strategic Plan and the Campus Master Plan of 2004.
The redevelopment of the townhouses will provide additional space and learning environments, which will enhance the School’s ability to offer a rigorous and innovative educational program, built upon our Quaker testimonies. Increasing flexible space for collaboration and interdisciplinary study and ensuring the sustainability of the structure relate directly to our Quaker values. The additional endowed funds will provide the School with a firm financial footing, adding resources to extend our financial aid program, support our distinguished faculty and develop programming to sustain new frameworks for learning.
The Board endorses these priorities, which we see as fundamental to strengthening the School’s mission and helping our students learn how “to bring about a world that ought to be.”
We express our belief in the goals of the Campaign and we make them a priority. We appreciate the responsibilities of the Campaign Committee, the Principal and staff in implementing the policies, organization and timetable of a campaign. Each of us is prepared to make the School a philanthropic priority and to commit our early financial support. We encourage others to do so as well. We look forward to participating in Campaign activities alongside the entire School community.
